A clinical study of bronchodilator effect of selective ¥â2-adrenoreceptor stimulant reproterol on bronchial asthma

Abstract
The drugs of the so-called first generation had the inconvenience of stimulating not o ly the broncholytically active fit-receptors but also the cardiovascularly active PI-receptuirs. Recent research work has aimed to selectively shift the point of attack to the P2-receptors, i.e. to obtain within the therapeutic dose range a spasmolysis without any influence on he cardiovascular parameters. The developement of reproterol means the availability o a bronchospasmlytic which best meets the requirement, of a high 62-receptor selectivity.
Thirty patients with chronic obstructive airway¢¥ disease were evaluated clinically for brenchodilator effects of reproterol.
The test results were examined by forced vital capacity, one sec forced expiratory volume, relative second capacity, and peak expiratory flow rates using autospirometry, of er oral administration of reproterol 20mg tid for five days.
There was significant increase of FVC, FEV1 & PEFR, but no significant incarese of FEV1/FVC ratio.
Subjective symptoms were also moderately improved after administration of reproterol. There were minimal side effects which was composed of palpitation, tremor, indigesti in,. and insomnia.
In view of the submitted results, reproterol represents good bronchodilating effects with minimal side effects for the treatment of obstructive airway disease.
